Children's Summer Reading Program

May 16-August 10

This program is designed for kids age 3 to 12 to encourage life-long reading habits. You will log minutes throughout the summer, and earn prizes when you reach certain amounts of hours. 

Please note: All prizes are available while supplies last. Please pick up prizes at your earliest convenience.

  • 60-90 Hours: 2 raffle tickets

There are also the following special challenges this summer including:

  • Read 20 hours by July 1st to be entered into a raffle for Cardinals tickets

You can also participate in the following Summer Learning Challenges, and earn an additional two raffle tickets for each challenge completed!

  • Nature Visit -Check Out Powder Valley, Emmenegger Nature Park, the Botanical Gardens, the St. Louis Zoo, or any other outdoor park and location. Share a picture of one cool location or item you found on your trip!
  • Community Helper - Help your community grow into something beautiful by volunteering your time with a local volunteer group or in your neighborhood. Submit a brief description of what you did
  • Good Eats- Make a recipe with a friend. Share a picture of the final product. 
  • You're the Librarian-Librarians usually give book recommendations, but this summer, we want you to recommend a book to a librarian! Visit the library, say hello to a librarian, and tell them about a book that you think they should read. To complete the challenge, please submit the title of the book.
  • Building Challenge- This summer, construct a masterpiece of a building with friends and/or family - all materials can be used. Submit a picture of your building.
  • Math Champ- How many pages can you read in an hour? Have a friend or family member time your reading, and add up the number of pages you read! Share your total number of pages by submitting the number of pages read in an hour.  
  • Local Author- Share a story! Submit one of these to fulfil the challenge! 1. Complete a short illustrated story you made (10 pages max), and bring it to the library and we will add it to our local creators collection of books to check out! Submit the title of your story. 2. Write a 250-500 word story and submit the story through READSquared.   
  • Resident Artist- Come to the library and make a craft from our available craft supplies, or make an art piece at home. Share a picture of your craft/art piece!
  • Fuzzy Friend- Read aloud to one of your fuzzy, furry, scaly, or stuffed friends! Take a picture of you reading aloud to a pet, animal, or stuffed friend!
  • Book Reviewer- Read a book, and share your review! When you log a book you have finished, you can select the option to leave a review. Write what you liked or did not like about the book. To complete the challenge, share the title of the book you have reviewed and if you would recommend it or not to a friend.
